Ethiopia’s National Dialogue Commission has scheduled September 20, 2026, to present its recommendations to the House of Peoples’ Representatives, giving a specific date for a parliamentary submission it had previously described as being in preparation.
The commission’s own account of a September 10 press briefing says Chief Commissioner Mesfin Araya announced the date. The Reporter’s September 12 coverage of the briefing gives a broader deadline of before September 22; September 20 falls within that window.
According to The Reporter, the planned package includes the dialogue report, participants’ recommendations and a proposed implementation strategy. Mesfin said the commission’s recommendations are advisory, leaving formal decisions to the relevant government institutions. Parliamentary submission would therefore not itself establish that the proposals have been adopted or implemented.
The commission says it consolidated agenda items from diaspora participants, regional stakeholders and federal-level stakeholders for the national conference. The newly announced handover date marks the next procedural step after that process.
The Reporter also said no specific date had been provided for public release of the underlying reports and documentation. The announcement establishes a planned parliamentary presentation, rather than confirmation that the handover has already occurred.
