Ethiopia is taking part in the International Atomic Energy Agency’s 70th General Conference in Vienna, the Ethiopian News Agency reported on 16 September 2026.

The meeting brings member-state representatives together to discuss nuclear safety, security and the peaceful uses of nuclear science. Fana also reported Ethiopia’s participation on 17 September.

The General Conference is the agency’s main policymaking forum. Delegations review its activities and establish priorities for its work, giving the meeting a role beyond discussions of electricity generation.

Peaceful nuclear applications also include cancer treatment, food security and water management. Ethiopia’s participation places it within those wider discussions; the reports reviewed did not identify a new Ethiopian project agreement or funding commitment.
