Eighteen suspects in the assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moïse were transported from Haiti to the United States on 20 September 2026 to face trial in Florida, according to US officials cited by The Guardian.
Jason Reding Quiñones, the US attorney for the Southern District of Florida, said the group travelled on a military aircraft. FBI official Brett Skiles described arrests in multiple locations as part of the continuing investigation. The transfer concerns allegations that must be tested in court; it does not establish the suspects’ guilt.
Moïse was killed at his private residence on 7 July 2021. US prosecutors have pursued the case because parts of the alleged plot were organised in South Florida.
The proceedings have already resulted in convictions involving other defendants. On 8 May 2026, the US Justice Department announced that four men had been convicted of offences connected to the plot, including conspiracy to kill or kidnap a person outside the United States. Those verdicts are separate from the cases of the newly transferred suspects.
