The Swiss runner accelerated away in the closing stages to secure the title. Hodgkinson took second in 1:56.26, while Femke Broeders-Bol finished third, according to The Guardian’s race report. Werro earned the event’s $150,000 first prize. The result added another victory to a season in which she had already won the European title, The Guardian reported.
Poland’s Klaudia Kazimierska won the women’s 1500 metres in 3:57.55 on the same evening. Georgia Hunter Bell challenged her down the final straight but finished 0.15 seconds behind.
